My research explores functional recovery following traumatic brain injury (TBI). Partnering with clinical experts from the Veterans Health Administration and the Department of Defense, I endeavor to (a) characterize long-term outcomes and (b) inform rehabilitative strategies following TBI, particularly among the relatively young Post-9/11 Veteran cohort. Of predominant interest are the complex influences that sensory dysfunction, cognitive problems, and multi-morbidity have on rehabilitative strategies and outcomes following TBI. At the intersection of physical medicine, cognitive science, speech-language pathology, and psychology – an interdisciplinary approach is crucial to effective clinical care and research.
